Kenji Onoda, mayor of Miyoshi, Japan, Columbus’ sister city, visited for the first time since he took office. Onoda spent time touring the city, meeting with officials and experiencing American life.
2000
The Columbus Police Department Honor Guard celebrated its 10 year anniversary of representing the department in parades and events. The Honor Guard was formed in 1990 by Patrolman Richard Funch.
1975
Columbus was one of two communities chosen for a 1975 Environmental Quality Award by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Columbus was nominated by the EPA regional headquarters in Chicago.
