I do not understand, how the people of Columbus, who are proud of their community have voted for Trump, who with all probability would’ve remained seated in his private dining room at the White House where he had been watching live broadcast of the attack on the Capitol, and not do anything to stop the hanging of his then-vice president Mike Pence, a native of Columbus.
Had the mob found Mike Pence inside the Capitol that day, while searching for him to hang him, and had they been successful in carrying out their murderous plot, with no one to stop them despite all the military and law enforcement at America’s disposal, Columbus would come to be known as the place where the only U.S. vice president to be lynched was born. Though some miracle, the hanging did not take place, because Pence and many others had hidden themselves in the basement of the Capitol. Still, it has left a huge blemish on this country.
Fascism starts as violence: One female Capitol police later told the Investigating Committee that, after she had regained consciousness from a blow to the head by one of the attackers on the steps of the Capitol, she found herself “walking in pools of blood” from fellow injured police officers. There are people who continue to show their support for Trump, by posting Trump yard signs and flags.
Before the 2024 election, Trump stated that he would be a dictator “on day one.” Some Democrats and Republicans saw that as authoritarian. During his campaign last year, he told his audience that if he wins, they won’t have to worry about voting for another president. That should be construed that he intends to be president for life.
Democracy taken for granted can be easily taken away. It is a mystery to me, why so many Americans chose to abandon their democracy and freedom, which has long been the envy of many people in countries ruled by a dictator, and chose as their leader someone who wants to destroy democracy. How is destroying all that America once stood for “make America great again?” I believe that each time Trump wears his “Make America Great Again” hat, he is poking fun at all those who fell for his lie.
