COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two men are in custody after an early morning gas station robbery at about 2 a.m. Monday.
Columbus police were called to a gas station in the 3600 block of West Jonathan Moore Pike and responding officers gathered information that two males had approached the store together, said Lt. Skylar Berry, Columbus police spokesman.
One male opened the door as the other entered with his face covered. Once inside, the man broke the glass on a display case near the front counter that contained vapes and cartridges, frightening the clerk behind the counter. He then grabbed an estimated $600 worth of merchandise and the two took off running from the store, Berry said.
Local law enforcement officers flooded the area looking for the two. A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy found two men matching the description behind a dumpster at a nearby hotel. They were identified as Roger Fisher, 21, and Patrick Halstead, 23, both of Indianapolis.

Detectives were called to the scene and gather more evidence indicating Fisher and Halstead were the culprits, Berry said. Both were arrested for the preliminary charge of robbery, as a Level 5 felony. They remain in the Bartholomew County Jail.
