Crimson Pride go 2-1 in Showdown In The Woods

WEST TERRE HAUTE — The IU Columbus volleyball team went 2-1 Friday on the first day of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods’ Showdown In The Woods.

The Crimson Pride swept Great Lakes Christian 25-9, 25-17, 25-14; fell to Johnson (Tennessee) 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 and swept Mount Mary 25-13, 25-23, 25-19.

Cora Baker recorded seven kills and three aces, and Alyvia Luce had 13 digs and three aces against Great Lakes Christian. Olivia Embry pounded seven kills, Sadie Egan tallied 16 assists and Brown County graduate Abigail Watson had one block.

Trinity Lutheran graduate Ruthie Bingham pounded 10 kills, Bailey Stevens recorded 17 assists, Ava Granson had one block, Luce notched 18 digs and Egan served three aces against Johnson.

Bingham pounded 11 kills, Stevens recorded 17 assists, Journee Brown had one block, Luce notched 11 digs and Baker served four aces against Mount Mary.

IUC (6-2) will wrap up Showdown In The Woods play Saturday against Culver-Stockton. The Crimson Pride will play their home opener Sept. 9 against Franklin.
