Winferd Henry, age 91, of Brown County, passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, August 25, 2025, at IU Hospice House in Bloomington.

He was born in Glenmary, Tennessee, on January 8, 1934, to the late Hurstle “Poppie” H. and Georgia (Young) Henry. A graduate of Robbins High School, Winferd went on to proudly serve his country as a Specialist 3rd Class in the United States Army.

On June 2, 1962, he married the love of his life, Betty Lou Stacey. Together they were blessed with four children and shared 63 years of devoted marriage. Winferd retired in 1991 after a 30-year career as a Senior Splicer Lineman with AT&T. He was a proud member of the Nashville Masonic Lodge #135 F & AM and attended Bean Blossom Baptist Church.

Outside of work, Winferd lived a life rich with hobbies and craftsmanship. He took pride in working with his hands and enjoyed weaving baskets and caning chairs. In earlier years, Winferd was an avid bowler both in a men’s league and alongside Betty Lou in a couples league in Mitchell. A true outdoorsman, he loved exploring the woods and mountains, often hunting for ginseng and arrowheads. He was also a collector of antique glass insulators and vintage signs. Above all, Winferd loved his family and treasured time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories rooted in love, laughter, and the quiet joy of togetherness.

Winferd will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty Lou Henry; children, Cheryl (Wayne) Baker, Paul Henry, Yvonna Bunner, and Joe (Rebecca) Henry; grandchildren, Derek (Haley) Baker, David Baker, Claire Baker, Aaron (Courtland) Henry, Evan Henry, Holly (Nicholas) Bunner Wood, Hannah Henry and Jacob Henry; great grandchildren, Josiah, Emi, Wesley, Arthur “Archie” and Gretchen “Greta”; siblings Syble Stringfield and Valma “Fluffy” (Dickie) Purser.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Eunice, Ledford, Dolphus, Douglas and Fisher Henry; 2 infant sisters, Brenda Kay & Sharon Faye; half siblings Quentin & Linton Henry, Ruby Kearney, Vernie Gibson, Ada Pickens, and Arthia Armes.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2nd at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home: 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A masonic service will be held during visitation on Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral service to celebrate Winferd’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Brown County Honor Guards.
