South Decatur tops Lancers

GREENSBURG — South Decatur claimed a 35-6 Mid-Indiana Football Conference win Friday at Edinburgh in a battle of teams seeking their first win of the season.

Jayden Jackson-Ray carried 17 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 28-yard TD pass from Ryker Martin. Martin completed 4 of 8 passes for 47 yards and two scores and carried seven times for 61 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars (1-2, 1-0).

Defensive linemen Elan Phelps, Ladd Hampton and middle linebacker Jackson-Ray led the Cougar defense.

“We took a lot of steps forward in a lot of areas,” South Decatur coach Rodney Martin said. “We had a lot of guys step up this week. First and foremost, our offensive line played the best game they have all year, and that’s something I’m very proud of.”

The Cougars visit Crawford County next week. Edinburgh (0-3, 0-1) will host Southside HomeSchool.
