FRANKLIN — Franklin’s Lauren Barker has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals in Saturday’s 4-1 women’s soccer win against Muskingum.
Barker, a junior from Columbus North, led the Grizzlies in scoring as a freshman before missing most of last season with a torn ACL. The four goals for Franklin (1-2) were its first of the season.
“The biggest thing that was working for us tonight was just finding each other, possessing the ball, not being selfish,” Barker told franklingrizzlies.com. “I think that showed early, to have a couple go down; it’s a game of momentum, and I think that gave us some confidence moving forward.”
Barker’s first goal came just 34 seconds into the game.
“It’s just such a good feeling to see a goal go down that early,” Barker said. “It was a great ball from Madison (Hill); she was putting me in good spots. But it’s the first goal as a team this year too, and we really needed that to lift us up coming off of two scoreless games.”
