Shirley Joanne (Turner) West

FRANKLIN

It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the passing of Shirley Joanne Turner West, who left this life peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on August 26, 2025, in Rockingham North Carolina at the age of 81.

Shirley was born on February 11, 1944, in Martinsville Indiana to Alden Macy Turner & Catherine Evelyn Payne. She was raised in Beech Grove Indiana and graduated from Beech Grove High School. She continued her education at Temple University, Brigham Young University and later in life graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Early Childhood Development

She married James Homer West Jr on February 11, 1967, in Indianapolis Indiana. They started a family and lived in Indianapolis. They decided to move to Jennings County then settled in Columbus Indiana for over 40 years and raised their 6 children there. They moved to Franklin Indiana in 2019. Together they built a life centered around love, family, service and devotion.

Shirley was a devoted, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings and capacities sharing her love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She also loved genealogy and family history.

She was a devoted mother of Chris (Melissa) West of Franklin Indiana, Jennifer (Michael) Ashley of Mt Gilead North Carolina, Adam (Berkeley) West of Mesa Arizona, Ammon (Stephenie) West of Yelm Washington, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Underwood of Pocatello Idaho, Mosiah (Joanna) West of Olympia Washington. Brother Steve Turner of Logan Utah. Grandchildren: Macy (Kenyon), Mallory, Madison, Mackenzie, Catherine (Gina), Jack (Rachel), Rachel (Allan), Sarah, Moroni, Chris, Lehi, Alma, Madeline (Dawsen), Ben (Camie), Eli (Ryleigh), Emily, Kelsey, Tanner, Colin, Jackson, Sidney, Logan (Coco), Paisley, Avery, Stella, Max. Great Grandchildren?James, Patrick, Alice, Benjamin

She was preceded in death by her parents Alden & Catherine Turner, and brother Richard Bunnell.

Funeral 11:00 am Saturday September 13, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Eastview Drive Franklin Indiana, Bishop Kyle Knight officiating.

Visitation:

5:00-8:00 pm Friday September 12, 2025, Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. and

10:am Saturday September 13, 2025, until start of Funeral at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Eastview Drive Franklin IN
