The Columbus Fire Department has announced a new partnership with the Love Chapel Food Bank, the Salvation Army Food Bank and the Columbus Kroger store in an effort to combat food insecurity within the community.
The collaborative initiative, called “Firefighters Fighting Hunger,” is endorsed by Indiana State Fire Marshal and is set make a significant impact during Hunger Action Month.
This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Columbus firefighters, alongside representatives from the Love Chapel Food Bank and the Salvation Army Food Bank, will be at the Columbus Kroger store to assist in the collection of non-perishable food items.
Shoppers will have the opportunity to meet local firefighters and food bank representatives. The representatives will provide “shopping lists” of the most needed items to encourage contributions that help fill the shelves at local food banks.
“We are thrilled to partner with Love Chapel, the Salvation Army and Kroger to address the critical issue of food insecurity in our community,” Fire Chief Andy Lay said in the release. “These partnerships are vital in providing essential resources to those in need, and we are committed to working together to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.”
Community members are encouraged to participate by visiting the Columbus Kroger store, engaging with local firefighters and donating items from the provided shopping lists. Contributions, no matter how small, help to ensure that local food banks can provide food items to those in need.
