A group of spouses of Columbus police officers formed a support group to offer encouragement to each other and help the community. Women Behind the Badge had about 50 members and was growing as new police officers were hired.

Columbus was ranked fourth out of 141 small dream cities in the United States by Demographics Daily, an online newsletter published by American City Business Journals Inc. of Charlotte, N.C.
1975
Columbus residents Capt. James M. Miller, fireman Cecil Martin, Barbara Nunemaker and William Fox received national awards for outstanding service from the Bartholomew County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
