Mollie Ernstes, last year’s Republic Girls Basketball Player of the Year, has made her college decision.

The Jennings County senior announced Thursday that she is headed to Kansas. Ernstes also had visited Arkansas and Dayton.

“I decided to pick Kansas because I believe it is the best place for me to grow as a player and be a part of a family,” Ernstes said. “The coaching staff and players were so unbelievably kind and easy to talk to, I could just be myself around them. I also prayed for clarity on this decision, and I believe God gave me clarity when I went to Kansas because I knew it was the place for me.”

A 5-foot-11 guard, Ernstes led the Panthers with 22.1 points, 2.7 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.1 blocks and averaged 6.3 rebounds a game last season in earning Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association first-team All-State honors. She was named an Indiana Junior All-Star, and in June, scored 14 points to help the Indiana Juniors to a 106-64 blowout of the Kentucky Junior All-Stars.
