The Full Throttle Speed Skating Team launched its competitive season on its home ice Sunday when it hosted its first Sprint Cup and a skating clinic Sept. 20-21 at Hamilton Community Center and Ice Arena.
The event attracted speed skaters from Illinois, Missouri, Michigan and Ohio. The Sprint Cup was an ability meet and included a special team race event, with the winners earning the Sprint Cup.
Edward Meir and Finn Phipps competed in the Psychic division, racing at 111m, 222m and five-lap distances. Meir finished first, and Phipps took third for men.
Quin Fortner, Ethan Tan and Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi competed in the Water division, racing at 222m, 333m and five-lap distances. Fortner placed third, Tan fourth and Marimoto Taqueushi sixth for men.
Rithwik Veeravalli and Vivaan Gupta competed in the Grass division at 222m, 333m and seven-lap distances. Veeravalli finished first, and Gupta was sixth for men.
Maria Marimoto Taqueushi and Eric Nichols competed in the Electric division, racing at 333m, 500m and 777m distances, and won titles for women and men. Additionally, Maria Marimoto Taqueushi earned the Sprint Cup’s Fastest 500 Female title.
Wyatt Kiefer competed in the Bills division across 1000m, 777m, 500m and 333m events, placing ninth in his group for men.

Luis Marimoto Taqueushi and Kiefer competed in the Fire division at 333m, 500m and 777m distances, finishing third and sixth, respectively for men. Luis Marimoto Taqueushi also qualified for US Short Track Age Group National Championship this Spring and earned the Sprint Cup’s Fastest 500 Male title.
Full Throttle skaters also crewed three teams for the Sprint Cup Team Races: Luis Marimoto Taqueushi, Kiefer and Nichols; Rithwik Veeravalli, Maria Marimoto Taqueush and Gupta; and Finn Phipps with Ari Barats from Northbrook and Aubrey Hausman from Gateway. The team of Marimoto Taqueushi, Kiefer and Nichols came in second to the visiting Northbrook club from the Chicago area.
The event closed with skaters, volunteers and families celebrating the day’s achievements with an ice cream social.
Full Throttle’s season continues in October with the Buffalo Short Track Championship.
