Columbus East two-sport standout Keaton Lawson likely will miss the rest of the football season after breaking his collarbone in practice Tuesday.
Lawson said Thursday that he was planning to undergo surgery Friday and is hoping to be back for the start of basketball season. The 6-foot-6 senior led the Olympian basketball team with 18.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a junior and has basketball scholarship offers from IU East and McKendree.
In football, Lawson leads East with 14 receptions for 187 yards and six touchdowns in five games. He also has seen action on defense at safety the past 2 1/2 seasons.
The Olympians (3-2, 3-0) have a big Hoosier Hills Conference showdown with Class 5A No. 11 Floyd Central (4-1, 2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. It will be East’s homecoming.
