Carol J. Maxey-Johnson passed from this life at her home in Columbus, September 25, 2025. Born on September 19, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Carol was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late James Russell and Rosemary Kirchoff Morgan and the devoted widow of Joseph W. Johnson.
Carol’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family. She is survived by her longtime companion, Steve Harden of Columbus, with whom she shared many treasured moments. Carol’s legacy lives on through her children, Chris (Dominique) Kell of Valley City, Ohio, Heather (Michael) Barnette of Lancaster, Ohio, and Meghan (Eli) Dailey of Cocoa, Florida. Steve’s sons, Shawn and Aaron Harden, both of Columbus, also held a special place in her heart. Carol’s love extended to her twin sister, Cathy (John) Hamer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and her brothers, James (Debbie) Morgan of Terre Haute and John (Cheri) Morgan of Austin, Texas. Her role as Nana to 11 grandchildren and G-Nana to six great-grandchildren was one she embraced with joy and pride. Carol will be remembered and greatly missed by her best friend, Carol Beth White of Mount Vernon, Indiana.
Throughout her life, Carol was a dedicated homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends. Her home was a reflection of her passions, adorned with her extensive collection of Longaberger Baskets and Boyds Bears, each piece telling a story of a life well-lived and cherished memories.
As we bid farewell to Carol, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with dignity and peace. Her memory will be treasured, her stories retold, and her love felt always.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. October 25, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 1 p.m. until service time Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks.
