Jennings ARES to have drill

JENNINGS COUNTY — Jennings County Amateur Radio Emergency Service members will have a simulated drill Oct. 10 to test their capabilities and those around the stte.

This drill is a simulation and poses no threats to the public. The impact of this drill will not restrict any forms of public travel, and no emergency exists and is simply an annual exercise.

The morning of Oct. 11, local ARES teams will mobilize and deploy to support affected areas. There will be increased radio traffic that can be heard on the amateur bands as these teams are called to assist. This event will conclude before evening Oct. 11.

ARES or Amateur Radio Emergency Services is a part of the ARRL. It is comprised of amateur radio operators commonly referred to as Ham’s who volunteer their services when needed to serve their communities. These services can vary depending on the needs but when called to assist it is to restore communication to areas damaged by storms or to provide communications in place of existing systems that have been damaged or failed such as during severe weather.
