Looking Back – Oct. 7

2015

The Republic earned 19 awards for advertising excellence during 2015’s Hoosier State Press Association contest, including seven first-place awards, five second-place awards, two third-place awards and five honorable mentions.

2000

Columbus East football coach John Stafford announced his retirement at East’s final regular-season home game against Jeffersonville. Stafford was the only head coach East had had in its time as a separate high school.

1975

Five different Columbus East High School players scored touchdowns as the school’s reserve football team won its second-straight game of the season. The Olympians beat visiting Brown County 37-0 and gave East a 2-4 record for the year.
