Three members of the Columbus North boys tennis team that made the state tournament have been selected to this year’s Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Academic All-State team.
Seniors Jace Branham, Harsil Gandhi and Teddy Littrell made the squad. North, Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran were named All-State Academic Teams
Meanwhile, North freshman Alek Devidze and Jennings County senior Parker Bales have been named All-District in singles. North’s Littrell and senior Vince Sasse, who have qualified for this weekend’s state doubles tournament made All-District in doubles.
Soccer players make All-District, Academic All-State
Several Columbus North, Columbus East and Hauser soccer players have been named Academic All-State by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.
North’s Advait Aras, Parthiv Bajracharya, Juan Galicia Salas, Parker Gribbins, Leo Iorio, Michael Larson, Sujay Pingale, Jake Roeder, Miguel Salomao and Ben Wiltrout; East’s Eddie Aranda Michel, Eli Ostrom, Jonathan Sylva and Josh VanValkenburg and Hauser’s Koleson Gerentz, Camden Grimes and Grady Niccum made the boys squad.
North’s Avery Baker, Hayden Bigler, Adi Butcher, Emerson Chambers, Rachel Fulp, Danika Hoehn, Allison Kolhouse, Grace Merritt, Brooklyn Pendleton, Gabby Revell, Lily Ryan, Alex Sawin, Riley Sims, Gabby Spurgeon and Aliyah Young made the girls team; along with East’s Audrey Bush, Emma Christie, Jo Conrad, Lilah Glick, Sophie Glick, Morgan Scott and Cadence Zeser.
Meanwhile, the All-District 4 teams also have been released. North senior Jonah Sipes and East senior Emilio Quintero Aguirre and junior Ryder Meek are on the first team, and North junior Mathiang Kak is on the second team. Sophomore Parker Gribbins was named the Bull Dogs’ Top Team Player, and senior Eli Ostrom was selected the Olympians’ Top Team Player.
North senior Allison Kolhouse is on the All-District girls first team, and junior Avery Baker made the second team. Sophomore Grace Bethuram was named the Bull Dogs’ Top Team Player.
North, East runners named Academic All-State
Several boys and girls from Columbus North and one Columbus East girl have been named to the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Academic All-State teams for cross-country.
East senior Eleanor Dickson and North juniors Rendy Zhong and Wendy Zhong are on the girls first team. North senior Maria Gaggiano Camargo and juniors Reece Peeples and Adira Sluder and South Decatur junior Brooklyn Ortman made honorable mention.
North seniors Leyton Hottell and Jace Works and junior Graham Pumphrey are on the boys first team. North seniors Denton Sluder, Sam Steinmetz and Logan Vanzant and juniors Liam Glyn-Jones and Drew Hoeflinger made honorable mention.
Volleyball players selected Academic All-State
All seven seniors on the Columbus North volleyball team and one Columbus East senior have been named Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
North’s Clara Balzano, Karen Dutro, Elaina Penrod, Hannah Perry and East’s Lilah Klei won the Gold Award for having at least a 3.75 GPA. North’s Kaitlyn Olivo, Morgan Osborn and Sydney Ousley won the Silver Award for having GPAs between 3.5 and 3.74.
Jennings County’s Kaydence Lowman and Addison Martin; Edinburgh’s Elizabeth Richardson Hernandez, Gracie Lawson and Kenna Streeval and Trinity Lutheran’s Bailey Bonde also won the Gold Award.
Gelfius is MHC Player of Year; locals named All-MHC
Hauser senior Charleston Gelfius has been named Mid-Hoosier Conference Volleyball Player of the Year.
Gelfius and teammate Hayden Dickey are joined on the first team by South Decatur’s Taylor Somers and Edinburgh’s Kenna Streeval. Hauser’s Regan Mack; South Decatur’s Raegan Benge, Liz Bennett, Raygan Harrison and Laney Seegers and Edinburgh’s Lucy Buck and Kinzie Purvis made honorable mention.
Olympians make All-HHC soccer teams
Four boys and two girls from Columbus East have been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference soccer teams.
Farid Garcia Renteria, Ryder Meek, Emilio Quintero Aguirre and Jonathan Sylva are on the boys first team. Eddie Aranda Michel, Ronan Maier, David Sylva and Ryan Turner made honorable mention.
East’s Sophie Glick and Morgan Scott are on the girls All-HHC first team.
North’s Adorno headed to Wabash Valley
Columbus North senior pitcher Jayden Adorno has committed to continue his baseball career at Wabash Valley.
Adorno originally had committed to Division-I Maryland-Eastern Shore, but said he wanted to pursue the junior college route because of the chance to be drafted earlier in his college career.
