GRAND RAPIDS. Mich. — Luke Niebert and Phoebe Dowty broke IU Columbus school cross-country records Saturday at the Great Lakes Classic.
Dowty broke her own record by 35 seconds and finished second in 18 minutes, 57 seconds for 5K (3.1 miles) to lead the Crimson Pride women to a 20th-place team finish. Erin Jones took 104th in 21:24, while Tori Gauck was 145th (22:23), Alexandria Saavedra 186th (25:36) and Grace Barkes 195th (28:58).

Luke Niebert broke his brother Jackson’s 8K (5-mile) men’s record by more than a minute with a 13th-place finish in 26:19. Emiliano Rosales-Lopez took 121st in 28:08, while Henry Fleetwood was 220th (29:57), Chance Knapp 229th (20:31), Bryaun Manuel 256th (32:19) and Joey Martinez 275th (36:32).
All five women’s runners ran season-bests, with four career-bests; and four of the six men’s runners had career-bests.
IUC will compete in the River States Conference meet Nov. 8 at Rio Grande.
