Gov. Mike Pence appointed Jesse R. Brand, Sue G. Smith and Barry E. Parkhurst to represent Bartholomew County on the Indiana Works Council Region 9. Each was set to serve a two-year term ending Oct. 31, 2017.

Donner Swim Club’s Leah Retrum won seven events at the Donner “Octobear” Developmental Meet at Donner Pool, including the 200-yard backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and Individual Medley in the girls’ 15-and-over division.

Bags were placed over parking meters along Washington, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Franklin and Jackson streets for a three-month trial period to see if downtown businesses would benefit from free parking. The bagging was carried out under the direction of the Columbus Board of Works.
