Sound and Spirit celebrating community night tonight at North

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.’s Sound and Spirit of Columbus is getting ready for its second annual Fall Community Night Tuesday after this past weekend’s semi-state competition.

The Sound and Spirit competed at the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) Open Class Semi-State Marching Band Festival at Ben Davis High School on Nov. 1, but didn’t quite advance to the state championships. The Sound and Spirit competed in the Open A division, but only the top 10 teams advanced to the ISSMA State Marching Band Finals.

Tuesday is Community Night for the Sound and Spirit where the group will perform this year’s show — “Elysium” — in full uniform on Max Andress Field starting at 8 p.m., followed by the traditional senior parent run through.

Spirit wear and blankets will be for sale in the stadium from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and after the performances inside the cafeteria, with proceeds benefiting the Sound and Spirit.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle going on, with tickets being sold in the stadium from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Food vendors — including Miel on Wheels, Covered Bridge BBQ, Humble Joe’s Coffee and Lil Dutch Mini Donuts — will be in the parking lot outside the cafeteria from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

This year’s senior Sound and Spirit members will also be honored with special displays in the cafeteria.

Looking ahead, the Sound and Spirit’s season isn’t over yet. The group will be one of more than 100 bands competing in the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis just over a week from now. Preliminaries are slated for Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
