Columbus North senior Macario Mendez has committed to continue his football career at Indiana Wesleyan.
Mendez was a two-year starter at cornerback for the Bull Dogs. He also plays baseball in the spring.
Bull Dogs, Panther named All-State
Three Columbus North and one Jennings County player have been named second-team All-State by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Assocation.
North freshman Alek Devidze and Jennings senior Parker Bales are on the Second Team Singles. North seniors Teddy Littrell and Vince Sasse made the Second Team Doubles.
Soccer players selected All-District
Several Bartholomew County soccer players have been named to All-District teams by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.
Columbus North senior Jonah Sipes and Columbus East senior Emilio Quintero Aguirre and junior Ryder Meek made the District 4 Boys first team. North junior Mathiang Kak is on the District 4 Boys second team, and Hauser junior Camden Grimes made the District 3 Boys second team.
North senior Allison Kolhouse is on the District 4 Girls first team. North junior Avery Baker made the District 4 Girls second team.
Bull Dogs named All-Conference Indiana
Several Columbus North athletes have been selected to All-Conference Indiana teams in fall sports, and David Young has been selected Girls Soccer co-Coach of the Year.
Senior Allison Kolhouse, juniors Avery Baker and Danika Hoehn and sophomore Grace Bethuram from the Conference Indiana champion girls soccer team are on the first team. Juniors Rachel Fulp and Evelin Lopez made honorable mention.
Seniors Jonah Sipes and Johnny Garcia Renteria and juniors Angel Espejel and Mathiang Kak are on the boys soccer first team. Sophomores Parker Gribbins and Luccas Peda made honorable mention.
Seniors Karen Dutro and Morgan Osborn and junior Lexi Denny are on the Conference Indiana volleyball first team. Junior Tania Maldonado made honorable mention.
Senior Teddy Litrell and freshman Alek Devidze are on the boys tennis first team. Senior Vince Sasse made honorable mention.
The All-Conference boys and girls cross-country and girls golf teams were determined at the conference meets. The All-Conference football team will be announced at a later date.
Columbus North is second in both the boys and girls All-Sports standings. Bloomington South leads the boys race with 28 points to 21 for the Bull Dogs and 20 for Bloomington North. The Panthers lead the girls standings with 27 points to 21 for Columbus North and 19 for Terre Haute South.
Jets pick boys cross-country awards
Hauser has announced its boys cross-country team award winners.
Max Miller won the Perseverance Award, Grady Niccum won the Positive Attitude Award and Nolan Dailey won the Leadership Award.
North football earns Exemplary Report
Columbus North football received an Exemplary Behavior Report for its sportsmanship during and after its 42-35 loss at Franklin Central in last week’s sectional semifinal.
An official wrote that the Bull Dogs “displayed great sportsmanship throughout a very competitive game. It was a pleasure to be on the field with such great kids.”
Bull Dogs hosting college singing day
Columbus North will hold a college signing day ceremony for senior athletes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria.
Future signing ceremonies at North will be Feb. 4 and April 15.
Martinsville-North girls game moved
The Martinsville at Columbus North girls basketball game that was scheduled for Nov. 14 has been moved up a day.
The game now will take place Nov. 13, with the JV starting at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Bull Dog girls open the season Saturday afternoon against Franklin and host Mooresville Tuesday evening.
