Just Friends attendees to display art in art fair

Just Friends Adult Day Services invites the community to view a variety of art, all designed and produced by Just Friends attendees, during an upcoming art fair.

The fair will be held every afternoon between Monday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. at Just Friends, 900 Lindsey St.

Art on display will include paintings, mixed media and crafts. These art activities are made possible in part by Columbus Indiana Arts Council and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the state of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“We are thrilled the people who attend Just Friends could express their strengths, creativity and life experience through different forms of art for a year,” Just Friends executive director Jayme Zobrist said in the release. “We are proud this art, just like each person who attends Just Friends, is unique and shows that all people have a valuable place in our community.”

People at Just Friends, like participant Ann, said they enjoyed the year-long art experience thanks to the generous grant dollars, according to the press release. Her favorite art they tried was pottery, Ann said in the release.

“I like to keep busy and be productive,” Ann said. “I like making things because it’s important to feel like you’re benefiting the world.”

Visitors attending the fair can enjoy light snacks and beverages while perusing the artwork and learning more about the work Just Friends does in the community. Just Friends, according to a press release, is one of southeast Indiana’s only daytime assisted activity center for adults who are socially isolated or live with chronic illness.

The organization has been opened since 1988 and currently supports 20 participants daily. Their adult day program offers home style meals and snacks, games, social work support, outings and more each weekday, according to their website.
