Shirley R. Burbrink

Shirley R Burbrink, 95, died early on November 13, 2025, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Born January 2, 1930 in Bartholomew County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Henry and Alma (Steinker) Schulz. She married Marvin Burbrink on December 7, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Clifty near the farm where she was raised. Marvin passed away on April 5, 2012.

In her earlier years, Shirley was active in 4-H, in her church youth group, and in Rural Youth. Her love of square dancing took her to an international competition.

More recently, Shirley was an active member of Club 24 Home Economics club for many years. She was an active supporter of the 4-H Fair. She sang in the church choir at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Mary Martha Circle there. She was also a member of The Country Club.

She delighted in having the grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit the farm. She loved living on the farm where she could keep an eye on the cows and especially the new calves. Being able to see the sunrise and sunset every day from her windows was considered a real blessing.

Shirley is survived by children Sharon Fawbush (Rance) of Ellettsville, Susan Reid (Wayne), John Burbrink (Tina), David Burbrink (Mary), and Mary Fischer (Randy), all of Columbus, and Diane Armand (Albert) of Westport. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to husband Marvin, she was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Goss, grandson Daniel Burbrink and great-granddaughter Claire King.

The funeral service will held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 5th Street, Columbus, Indiana with the Revs. Tim Carter and Mark Teike officiating.

A private graveside service will be held at the Daniel Luke Burbrink addition of Donaldson Cemetery were she will be laid to rest next to her husband Marvin Burbrink.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington and 9:00 a.m. to time of service Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pipe Organ Fund at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
