Full Throttle Speed Skating competed at the Great Lakes Short Track Championships last weekend at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee. It was an ability meet, with skaters from Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, Colorado, California and Utah.
Edward Meir and Finn Phipps competed at 111m, 222m, 333m and 500m distances. Meir finished third, and Phipps took fifth for boys in their group.
Ethan Tan competed at 222m, 333m, 500m and 777m distances. Tan finished seventh for boys in his group.
Vivaan Gupta and Quin Fortner competed at 333m, 500m, 777m and 1000m distances. Gupta finished fourth, and Fortner was sixth for boys in their group.
Maria Marimoto Taqueushi competed in the women’s Heartland division, racing at 500m, 777m, 1000m and 1500m distances, finishing tenth.
Eric Nichols, Luis Marimoto Taqueushi and Wyatt Kiefer competed in the Heartland Men B division, racing at 500m, 1000m and 1500m distances. Luis Marimoto Taqueushi finished sixth, Kiefer 14th and Nichols 15th.
Full Throttle heads to the Ohio Invitational at Cleveland Heights, Ohio, in December. The team practices at the Hamilton Center Ice Arena and is coached by Taylor and Mikey Burdekin of Columbus.
BROOMBALL
Broomball league begins
The Columbus Broomball League kicked off Sunday with six teams.
CCA blanked Jennings County BC 4-0. Scott Herron, Shawn Bauman, Tim Walton and Chris Judd scored the goals.
Our Name Is Earl beat Monsters of Rock 3-1. Darren Eckerty, Jarred Hill and Dunn scored for Earl. Zach Henderson had the Monsters of Rock goal.
Rockpile topped Hansons 3-1 behind goals from Max Warr, Matt Street and Joe Haase. Keith Henry scored for Hansons.
In the Iron Man Game, Team 3 and 4 beat Team 1 and 2 7-1. Warr netted four goals, and Ellie Lutz, Darren Eckerty and Ryan Jepson all added one for the victors. Street scored for Team 1 and 2.
