COLUMBUS
Janice Faye Meeks Hand, age 78, of Columbus, Indiana entered this life on December 16, 1946, in Warren County, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late John and Dortha Wingfield Meeks. She was raised in Warren County, Kentucky, and Scott County, Indiana, and graduated from Lexington High School in 1964 in Lexington, Indiana. On December 21, 1968, she was united in marriage to Kenneth V. Hand in Scott County, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 57 years was blessed with daughters, Karen, Katherine, Emily and Melanie. The family settled in Columbus where Kenneth worked at Cummins Engine Company. She was a faithful member of Parkside Baptist Church in Columbus where she sang in the choir and served in children’s ministry. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, cake decorating, and collecting dishes. Janice was known by all for her generosity and hospitality. She always thought of others before herself and loved to entertain her friends and family in her home. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was awaiting the birth of two more great grandchildren. Her family was the most important part of her life except for her relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ. Janice passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 3:22 p.m. at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.
Janice will be missed by her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Kenneth V. Hand of Columbus, Indiana; her loving daughters, Karen Bray (Jeff) of Columbus, Indiana, Katherine Taylor of Holland, Michigan, Emily Jaggers (Scott) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Melanie Klinker (David) of Columbus, Indiana; her loving grandchildren: Caleb, Molly, Jonathan, Hannah, Joey, Natalie, Margaret, Elizabeth, Ian, Philip, Derrick, and Andrew; her great grandson, Wesley; her brothers, Johnny R. Meeks (Susan LaFary) of Columbus, Indiana, Douglas N. Meeks (Piper) of Marion, Indiana; her sister in law, Cheryl Hand Hall (Tony) of Madison, Indiana; two nieces and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Meeks and her mother, Dortha Wingfield Meeks.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Nathan Meeks at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont, Indiana.
Friends may visit Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
