Carter Patterson // Columbus East senior basketball player

Patterson led the Olympians with 20 points and nine rebounds in Saturday’s 72-55 win against Southwestern (Hanover).

His performance last week: “I got all of our teammates involved, and my teammates got me involved and helped me score the ball, which made it easier for me.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I try to get to the gym as early as I can and just get up shots and get my mind right mentally.”

Favorite drink: “Sprite Cranberry”

Favorite food: “I like Jaggers hamburgers.”

Favorite class: “Student teaching with Miss (Meagan) Thompson”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana Pacers ”

Favorite athlete: “Tyrese Haliburton”

Role model: “My grandpa (Dale Patterson). He just passed away not too long ago. He was a great role model to me.”

Best advice: “Push as hard as you can. There’s no limits on anything. You can always get over something if you have to.”

Athletics goal: “I just want to win a sectional championship with this team and make it to the regional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. I haven’t been there in awhile, so it would be good to go back.”

Tienica Dits

Dits won the 105-pound weight class to help lead the Olympians to a third-place team finish in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

Her performance last week: “I’m proud that I was able to wrestle there. I don’t feel like I wrestled my best, but I definitely can do better next time.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just treat it like a normal day. I don’t want to hype myself up too much or cause too much tension that I get nervous. I just want to be able to wrestle my best without any stress.”

Favorite drink: “Water or Monster”

Favorite food: “I like all food.”

Favorite class: “I really like my Weights class and my Paleontology and Astronomy classes.”

Favorite sports team: “Indianapolis Colts”

Favorite athlete: “(Olympic wrestler) Amit Elor and (former Yorktown and McKendree wrestler and current North Central College coach) Alara Boyd”

Role model: “A lot of the seniors from last year like Monica (McMahon), Grace (McMahon), Eden (Knight), Saige (Plummer), all of them, and a couple of the guys that graduated last year. Gage (Rutan) really encouraged me in the weight room. I look up to them a lot.”

Best advice: “Don’t ever sell yourself short, and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.”

Athletics goal: “I just want to keep getting better and continue to push myself every day.”

If you could travel anywhere: “The Redwood Forest because it’s just so huge, and it’s cool to see God’s creation in that way.”
