Although a couple of teams had to drop out because of the inclement weather, three others were able to make the trip to Columbus Saturday morning for Columbus North’s wrestling invitational.

The host Bull Dogs went 3-0 against those opponents to capture the title. North beat West Washington 65-16, Monrovia 57-21 and Madison 56-18.

“All things considered, with the snow and a couple teams (Cascade and Western Boone) having to drop out, the guys wrestled well and supported each other, cheered each other on,” North coach Matt Joyce said. “It was a fun day. Especially against a couple sectional opponents, it’s always good to get head-to-heads.”

Eight Bull Dogs went 3-0 for the day. Senior Servando Lozano pinned all three of his opponents at 285 pounds.

“I feel like I practiced hard, but I did not live up to my own goals today,” Lozano said. “It could have been better. I’m proud of the three wins, and I’m proud of the way my team wrestled, but I still think I could have done better personally.”

Also going 3-0 for North were Alexander Stahley (106), James Brown (113), Harper Hardebeck (138), Cohen Long (150), Asher Ratliff (157), Eric Streeval (175) and Darrell Hicks (190). Sam Bosley (120) and James Scruggs (157) each went 2-1.

“I thought we wrestled good as a team,” Ratliff said. “We fought off our back well. We got bonus points when we needed them. I think it was a really good confidence booster for our team winning quite a few duals and give us some good momentum before we wrestle East.”

The Bull Dogs will host the crosstown matchup with Columbus East Wednesday. The girls match will start at 6:30 p.m., with the boys to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
