Communities in Senate District 44 — which includes Jackson County, Jennings County and North Vernon — will receive more than $4 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG).
Jackson County, Jennings County and North Vernon will receive $973,356, $1,000,000 and $984,700, respectively.
“As the Crossroads of America, it is important our roads and bridges are well-maintained,” Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) said. “The Community Crossings Matching Grant program gives our towns and counties funds to maintain these roads and pursue infrastructure projects. I want to congratulate the communities in Senate District 44 who received this grant, and I look forward to seeing what they do with the funds.”
Gov. Mike Braun, Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure Matt Ubelhor and INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist joined local officials from across northwest Indiana in Delphi on Tuesday to present awards for communities statewide for the CCMG program.
There were $100 million in state matching funds were announced overall for 191 Indiana cities, towns and counties.
Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 55,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive an 80%/20% match, while counties with populations greater than 55,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
Communities submitted applications during a call for projects in October.
Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. The program has provided more than $2 billion for local road improvement projects since its inception in 2016.
The Indiana General Assembly identified long-term funding for Community Crossings as part of House Enrolled Act 1002, passed in 2017. Following changes outlined during the 2025 legislative session, the program cap is now set at $100 million per year and the annual cap is reduced to $1 million per local unit of government per state fiscal year. An additional change is a reduced local match for smaller communities. Starting in the fiscal year of 2027, a single call for projects will occur each July.
