North, East set for Rivalry Week

The Columbus North and Columbus East boys basketball teams play at Columbus North, Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.

With many families thinking about the upcoming holidays and winter break, there is still plenty of prep sports in Bartholomew County to be played over those holidays.

This week is rivalry week for the winter sports season as the city’s two high school teams battle it out in boys and girls swimming, wrestling and basketball.

First up is the Columbus North and Columbus East girls and boys swimming meet that will be hosted by the Olympians at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Next up will be girls wrestling when North hosts East at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The boys wrestling match will follow after the conclusion of the girls match at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The girls basketball teams will square off Thursday when North hosts East, with the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity game to follow. The Bull Dogs have won three of the past four, including the postseason, over the Olympians.

Rivalry Week concludes Friday when East hosts North in boys basketball with the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity game to follow. After the Bull Dogs won five straight games, including in the sectional, over the Olympians from 2019-23, the Olympians have won three of the past four over North, including in the sectional the past two seasons.

Hauser will be on the road to face Mid-Hoosier Conference rival Edinburgh in a varsity girls-boys doubleheader Friday. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow at around 8 p.m.

As a reminder, North and East students will have free admission only to the rivalry games that are hosted by their respective schools. Students must show their student ID at the ticket gate for the free admission.
