City council wraps on year

As 2025 comes to an end, so does a years-worth of meetings for Columbus City Council members.

The group met 22 times, just about every other Tuesday at Columbus City Hall, where they made decisions about zoning and appropriating funds, passed new ordinances, spoke on behalf of constituents and engaged in, at times, spirited discussions.

Over the past year, city council members saw the arrival of the city’s new strategic plan, moved forward plans for two residential multi-family developments on Washington and 14th streets and heard updates on the city council-supported homelessness initiative being led by United Way of Bartholomew County.

The group also continued supporting a new home for the department of public works, expanded the scope of the Second Street Thoroughfare project, updated a city ethics policy and brought the city’s noise ordinance out of the Stone Age.

Here are the attendance numbers of each council member in 2025:

Chris Bartels, R-District 1: 18/22 meetings

Elaine Hilber, D-District 2: 21/22 meetings

Jerone Wood, D-District 3: 16/22 meetings

Frank Miller, R-District 4: 22/22 meetings

Kent Anderson, R-District 5: 22/22 meetings

Josh Burnett, R-at-large: 21/22 meetings

Tom Dell, D-at-large: 22/22 meetings

Council members will meet next on Jan. 6 where they will consider a slate of appointments to various city commissions and boards and elect officers for 2026.
