The Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety and the Bartholomew County School Corp. Board both approved easements to allow the school district to construct a pedestrian and bike trail along Rocky Ford Road down to Richards Elementary School on Fairlawn Drive.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Kraig Weisner was named the department’s Employee of the Year by his peers for his efforts in curbing drug activity in Bartholomew County. Deputy Jim Green, Jr. was named Deputy of the Year.

Well over 1,000 entries were submitted to The Republic’s annual Southern Indiana Gourmet Cookbook Contest, which set a new record. The 1976 cookbook was set to be published on Jan. 30.
