Drake Scaggs // South Decatur senior basketball player
Scaggs led the Cougars with 22 points and six rebounds in a 71-59 win against Western Boone and 31 points and five steals in a 68-58 win against Union County Saturday in the Morristown Tournament.
His performance last week: “I think we just played as a team, and the ball bounced my way. We have a lot of weapons, and any one of us can score at any time, so that just makes us dangerous.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I don’t really hype myself up. I kind of mentally prepare myself for when adversity hits so that I’m prepared for when adversity does hit.”
Favorite drink: “Blue Gatorade”
Favorite food: “Pizzalicious pizza in Westport”
Favorite class: “Miss (Mackenzie) Kopplin’s financial class.”
Favorite sports team: “Indiana Hoosiers”
Favorite athlete: “(Los Angeles Lakers guard) Grayson Allen”
Role model: “My Dad (Rob Scaggs). I think he just sets a great example for me and holds me to a high standard in a healthy way.”
Best advice: “Stay positive and don’t attach yourself to something emotionally variable that is there.”
Athletics goal: “I’d just love to go as far into the state tournament as we can.”
If you could travel anywhere: “I’d love to go to Oregon. I’m a huge fan of their geography, and I’d love to go that far west sometime.”

Lola Watkins // Columbus East junior basketball player
Watkins led the Olympians with 20 points in Saturday’s 56-43 win against Greenwood Christian Academy in the Hauser Tournament. Friday, she led East with 12 points in a 39-38 loss to Crawford County and 14 points in a 69-38 loss to Austin in the tourney.

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, during the national anthem, I pray, and then we pray as a team, as well.”

Favorite athlete: “(Tennessee softball pitcher) Karlyn Pickens”
Role model: “My older brother (Jackson Watkins)”
Best advice: “Don’t be so hard on yourself, because sometimes your 100 percent might not be the same as your 100 percent on another day.”
Athletics goal: “I want to go to college for softball.”
If you could travel anywhere: “The Mediterranean Sea, so I could go to Greece and other places so I could get all the different cultures.”
