COLUMBUS, Ind. — An area of snow showers will continue to move south across central Indiana this afternoon as a cold front moves through. Visibility may be reduced to less than half a mile in snow showers. Winds will gust to around 40 mph, and temperatures will fall below freezing, allowing slick areas to develop on roads.

Power outages were reported in the area of North National Road toward Central Avenue, although some power has been restored there. The Republic lost power for about a half hour at about 2 p.m., but power at the building has since been restored.

About 2,000 Duke Energy customers lost power when a tree went down on a transmission line in a remote area near Clifty Creek, Duke officials said. Power was rerouted and restored and a crew is on its way to the tree to make repairs to the transmission line.

Duke Energy said about 65 customers in Columbus remained without power at 3:20 p.m. but all had power restored by 3:50 p.m.

Overall in the state of Indiana, Duke is reporting 17 active outages with 1,557 customers without power, the majority of them east of Bedford and also southwest of French Lick.

If traveling this afternoon, be alert for rapidly changing conditions in short distances. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.
