Looking Back – Jan. 16

Parker Eickbush, Chloe Kennedy, Kaalob Schmidt, Skylar Sharp, Derek Stenneski, Ethan Wallace, Caleb Wasson and Dillon Garwood, a group of eighth-graders from Hauser Junior-Senior High School, won the Best in State award in Verizon’s App Challenge. The students created the concept of Speak Bot Pro, an app to help speech-impaired people.

Columbus’ Mindy Lewis, associate director of the Cummins Foundation, was the keynote speaker at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast in the Ramada Plaza Hotel’s ballroom.

A five-course, 25-item luncheon was served to the judges of the annual Southern Indiana Gourmet Cookbook, published by The Republic. The 25 recipe finalists served their items at the Public Service Indiana demonstration kitchen.
