Michael Lee Hughes

NORTH VERNON

Michael Lee Hughes, 90, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Born December 5, 1935, in Grant County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Loval and Mildred (Parson) Hughes. He married Wilma Mae (Branham) Hughes on April 22, 1956, at the Weston Baptist Church in Jennings County; she preceded him in death on March 1, 2018.

Michael was a 1954 graduate of Paris Crossing High School. He worked maintenance for Cummins Engine Company for 36 years retiring in 1990, after retirement he mowed lawns. Michael was the former owner of Kimberly Lake. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church, Gideon’s International, and Promise Keeper. Michael enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends and shut ins.

Survivors include his son, Roger A. (Gayle) Hughes of North Vernon; his daughters, Cathy Jo Heath of Commiskey and Marcia L. (Rick) McGill of North Vernon; brothers, Ray (Brenda) Hughes and John (Nancy) Hughes, both of North Vernon, and Kevin (Sherry) Hughes of Commiskey; sisters, Sharon Galliher of Commiskey and Beth Hughes of Seymour; granddaughter, Caryle (Christopher Morrow) Heath of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Kalleigh and Walker Morrow, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and sister, Pat Simmons.

A funeral service for Michael will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County. The visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Tea Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Michael through the funeral home to the Tea Creek Cemetery Fund.
