A local man is in custody for multiple charges following a crash, pursuit, and drunk driving investigation.
Columbus police were notified at 5:19 p.m. Monday of a leaving the scene crash that happened near Carr Hill Road and Merchants Mile. The caller believed the driver that left the scene was intoxicated, said Lt. Skylar Berry, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
They followed the suspect vehicle, a white Ford F-150, to Third and Franklin Streets. There, the caller was able to point out the suspect vehicle to officers as it turned and
went the wrong way down Third Street traveling east. Officers attempted to stop the F-150, but the driver fled, Berry said.
Officers pursued the truck down State Street out of the city until it eventually stopped near State Road 7 and 525 East. The driver, Clinton Rogers, 47, of 2902 N. Karen Court, Columbus, was taken into custody without incident. Officers noted signs of impairment and a beer can in the truck.
As a result of the officers’ investigation, Rogers was arrested and preliminarily charged with the following:
• Resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, a Level 6 felony
• Operating while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor
• Disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor
• Leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor
• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor
• Reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor
Rogers was being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials reported.
