Bartholomew County sets up warming centers

Bartholomew County has set up warming centers as extreme cold is predicted through the weekend and into next week.

Warming Center locations through Jan. 30 are:

  • Community Engagement Center, 1075 Second St., Columbus, hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Brighter Days, 421 S. Mapleton St., Columbus, hours of 4 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, 4 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday, and 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. There are no animal crates available and only service animals will be allowed. Transports will be provided on Saturday night and Sunday morning and evening between Brighter Days and the engagement center.
  • Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus, hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. No animal crates available, service animals only
  • Hope Branch of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 635 Harrison St., Hope, hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. No animal crates available, service animals only.

Food, showers and areas for sleep are not available, with the exception of Brighter Days.

Those visiting the centers are asked to respect the rules of the facility and other individuals there.

Weather conditions will be monitored to determine if dates need to be extended.
