It wasn’t the best meet for the Columbus North gymnastics team.
The Bull Dogs had some miscues and falls Thursday night, but it was still good enough to defeat Edgewood 102.275 to 94.325.
“We had a lot of falls and miscues from really about every piece of equipment, so it wasn’t one of our better meets,” North coach Bob Arthur said. “It just didn’t seem like their head was in the game tonight. When you see the pattern of girls, they all kind of followed suit on that. It’s better to have them start off hot at the beginning and continue to pull in those good scores.”
Hayden Harper won the all-around competition with a 35.325. She also scored first place on the bars (8.35), beam (9.25) and floor (9.075) and third on the vault (8.65).
“I think I did really good this meet,” Harper said. “I think I’m getting better and better, and even though I fell, I just have fun.”
Harper had a stumble on the bars, but came back strong in her last two events, the beam and the floor.
“Whenever I fall, I always think to myself that falling happens, and it isn’t always going to be perfect,” Harper said. “I always tell myself that you can try harder at the next one to make up for it, and don’t beat yourself down because if you beat yourself down, then you’re just not going to have any motivation.”
Ellie McIntier finished second in the all-around with a 33.475 for the Bull Dogs. She was first on the vault (8.85) and third on the bars (7.95), beam (8.375) and floor (8.3).
Karlie Haston placed second on the vault (8.7) and fourth in the all-around (32.4). Peyton Hewitt took second on the bars (8.25), fourth on the beam (8.3) and vault (8.6) and third in the all-around (32.975).
The Bull Dogs next meet will be Thursday at home against Seymour.
