COLUMBUS
Herman J. Seaborne, of Columbus, a cherished patriarch, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on June 9, 1927, in Casey Creek, Kentucky, to the late Samuel T. and Gracie Seaborne, Herman spent his formative years in the rolling hills of his birthplace before establishing a life full of love, service, and dedication in Columbus, Indiana.
Herman’s indelible spirit was matched by a life of commendable work and commitment to his country. A proud veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he carried the tenets of discipline and dedication through to his longstanding career. After 33 years with Cummins Engine Company, he retired as a foreman in the Test Cell department.
Family was the cornerstone of Herman’s life, and he will be lovingly remembered by his children, Phyllis Parker, Doug (Sara) Seaborne, Wendell Seaborne, and Wade (Rosemary) Seaborne. Herman took immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Misty Parker, James (Stephanie) Seaborne, Sara (Kevin) Rhoton, Craig Seaborne, Amy Fisher, and Laura and Alison Seaborne. His legacy of warmth and guidance endures in his great-grandchildren, including Mia, Sam, Eddie, Max, AJ, Karisma, Kambri, Breanna, Ethan, Jackson, Tyson, Weston, Vincent, Emily, Micah, and Charlotte. He also leaves behind his sister, Berniece Carroll. Herman now reunites with his dear departed wife, Dorothy R. (Tedder) Seaborne, in eternal rest.
An exemplar of faith and community service, Herman was a founding member of the Central Heights Church of God. His faith was the bedrock upon which he built his life, inspiring many with his unwavering dedication to service and communal uplift. He led by example, contributing countless hours as a Boy Scout leader, nurturing young minds to grow with integrity and respect for the natural world.
To know Herman was to know a friend. His congenial nature drew people from all walks of life, creating a vast network of friendships founded on mutual respect and kindness.
Herman J. Seaborne’s incredible journey through 98 years is a narration rich with love, hard work, and an enduring faith. His memory remains woven into the fabric of the lives he’s touched, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. Herman’s radiant smile and the strength of his character remain as beacons of what it means to lead a life well-lived.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service and Crematory with Reverand Nathan Greene officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest next his wife, Dorothy in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
