The Jets and Tigers will tip off at 6 p.m. Thursday, Class A No. 7 Trinity and Class A No. 8 Oldenburg will follow at around 7:45 p.m. The winners will meet in the semifinals at around 7:45 p.m. Friday, and the sectional final is at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Girls swimming sectional begins Thursday
The girls swimming sectional gets underway with prelims at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at East Central.
Columbus North junior Mridula Muthukumaran is seeded second in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly. She is the defending sectional champion and was a state qualifier in both events last season.
The Bull Frogs’ Cora Tregoning is seeded third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle, and Abby Proffitt is sixth in the 500 freestyle. North is seeded third in the 200 freestyle relay, fourth in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 400 freestyle relay.
Columbus East’s lone swimmer, Baylee Benefield, is seeded 22nd in the 200 freestyle and 25th in the 100 backstroke.
The top eight in each event from the prelims qualify for Saturday’s finals, while the next eight make the consolation heat. Diving prelims start at 9 a.m. Saturday, with swimming finals and consolations beginning at 1 p.m. and diving finals starting around 1:30 p.m.
Winners of each swimming event at each of the state’s 20 sectional sites and any others meeting the state standard qualify for next weekend’s state finals. If those numbers add up to less than 32 in an event, swimmers with the next-best times will be added to reach 32 in that event.
Hauser to wear throwback uniforms
The Hauser boys basketball team will wear throwback uniforms at its Feb. 14 home game against Crothersville.
The uniforms worn by the Jets varsity will pay tribute to the Hope Red Devils and Clifford Panthers teams that preceded the consolidation into Hauser.
