Improved Bull Dogs topple Owls

It was a much-improved performance Thursday night for the Columbus North gymnastics team against Seymour.

The Bull Dogs didn’t have their season-best score, but it was an improved score from the past three meets with a 105.475 to 87.475 victory over visiting Seymour.

Senior Hannah Perry returned to the lineup Thursday after missing the past two meets with a back injury. Perry said she took a fall on her back and neck area and sat out to take extra precautions from the injury.

Perry’s presence was felt in Thursday’s meet. She placed first on the beam (9.125) and floor (9.45), tied for third on the bars with teammate Karlie Haston (7.875), and Perry finished fourth on the vault (8.65) to place second in the all-around (35.1).

“It really felt good to come back and compete in almost everything exactly the same as I did two weeks ago,” Perry said. “I think it really contributed just as well to my mental health as well. I’m a go-getter, so sitting out is not my favorite thing to do, but it felt really good to take things slow and just to be back for my team. “

Hayden Harper won the all-around for the Bull Dogs with a 35.825. She placed first on the vault (8.95) and bars (8.775), second on the beam (8.8) and tied for second on the floor (9.3).

Ellie McIntier took second on the bars (7.925) and tied for second on the vault (8.9) and floor (9.3) for third in the all-around (33.5). Haston was fourth on the beam (7.875).

“They worked hard over the week. We looked at the film and saw what needed to be improved and worked on some of that. I think having a more regular school week probably helped out and keeping them on their schedule,” North coach Bob Arthur said. “I’m proud of the girls, and I like to see the scores move back in the right direction again, but we still have lots of room for improvement, but at least we made it go the right way this time.”
