COLUMBUS
Robert “Bob” L. Settle, 92, a lifelong resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Best known as Bob, was born to Carmel L. and Hazel Eickleberry Settle on March 12, 1933 in Columbus, Indiana.
For over 30 years, Bob was a dedicated employee of the Cummins Engine Company, where his work ethic and amiable nature set him apart. Even after retirement, his vigorous spirit could not be stilled; Bob could often be found mowing for the Parks Department in Columbus, ensuring the shared spaces of his community were well-maintained for everyone to enjoy. His commitment to hard work left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Bob’s interests extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He was an active member of the CREAK Club through Cummins, finding joy in the camaraderie and shared activities with fellow retirees.
Bob is survived by his children, Randall (Sandra Asher) Settle, Jeanette (Bruce) Otte and Gary (Lisa) Settle all of Columbus; sister, Frances Schnell of Columbus; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther M. Strahl Settle; son, Phillip Settle; siblings, Elizabeth Baute, Mary Sue Lovins and Edward Settle.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Amy Linnemann officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Bob will be laid to rest next to his late wife at Ohio Chapel Cemetery in Columbus.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Ohio Chapel Cemetery Fund.
