WINSTON SALEM, N.C. — IU Columbus split a baseball doubleheader Friday at Carolina University, winning the opener 14-11 and dropping the second game 10-2.
Trey VanMeter went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs, and Jennings County graduate Carson McNulty went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs and Grayson Roll went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in the opener. Columbus East graduate Alex McComb added two RBIs. Zayne Smith, the third of four Crimson Pride pitchers, picked up the win, and Gavin Haltom earned the save.
IUC (3-5) was limited to four hits in the second game. Grayson Roll, the first of five Crimson Pride pitchers, took the loss.
IUC plays another doubleheader Saturday at Carolina before heading home to start a six-game homestand with doubleheaders Feb. 21 and 22 against Cleary.
