ISP investigating after female inmate found unresponsive in cell

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Indiana State Police Versailles Post is investigating an incident at the Bartholomew County Jail which resulted in the hospitalization of a female inmate.
At about 1 p.m. Saturday, Bartholomew County Correction Officers conducted a check on a female inmate who was incarcerated in the jail. Officers found the inmate, who was in a cell by herself, unresponsive on the floor. Officers immediately provided emergency medical care and requested Bartholomew County EMS to respond.
The female was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital in serious condition. The Bartholomew County Sheriff requested the Indiana State Police to investigate the incident to determine what led to the female being found unresponsive. The inmate’s condition is unknown at this time.
No foul play is suspected. The female inmate involved in this incident is not being identified due to the nature of the investigation, state police said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
