TERRE HAUTE — Keaton Stephenson was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Meet after winning the 200-yard freestyle at the HCAC Championships at Vigo County Aquatic Center.
Stephenson, a freshman from Columbus East, swam 1 minute, 43.16 seconds in the 200 freestyle. He also finished third in the 500 freestyle (4:42.80) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (47.36).
Stephenson also swam on the winning 800 freestyle relay and runner-up 200 freestyle relay teams to help lead the Grizzlies to a second-place overall team finish.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Maddi Rutan went 1 for 2 in Tennessee’s 4-1 win against Nebraska and 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored in an 11-0 win against James Madison Friday in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational.

Rutan, a junior from Columbus North, was the starting pitcher and allowed two hits and no walks in four shutout innings in picking up the win in Saturday’s 8-0 win against Florida Atlantic. She also reached base on a walk and scored a run.
