Commissioners approve sale of house owned by CRH

The board of trustees at Columbus Regional Hospital has determined that a hospital-owned property at 2433 17th St. is no longer necessary for hospital purposes and are planning to sell it.

With a 3-0 vote, the Bartholomew County commissioners on Monday approved the motion for the sale of the 2433 17th St. property.

According to the Indiana County Hospital Act, the hospital must obtain an appraisal of the property by three disinterested owners of taxable real property in the county, receive approval of the sale from the county’s executive board and then publish a notice of the sale at least seven days before the sale date.

The property was initially used in 2020 to house traveling nurses and doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a residential house, it is being sold back to local residents.

According to Commissioner Larry Kleinhenz R-District 1, several years ago, the hospital would buy any properties for sale in the neighborhood adjacent to the hospital. Now, the hospital is attempting to sell those homes back to the public.

“Over the years, (the hospital’s) plans have changed. They’ve realized that the long-term future is not over there off of Hawcreek because of flood issues and limited real estate,” Kleinhenz said.
