
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North’s team and Columbus East junior Bethany Lewis are headed to the Gymnastics State Finals.
Led by a 1-2 finish in the all-around competition, the Bull Dogs finished second in the Franklin Central Regional as a team, just three-tenths of a point behind New Palestine. The Dragons won with a 108.55 to North’s season-high 1808.55 and 106.55 for Noblesville, which claimed the third-and-final team-qualifying spot.
Hayden Harper won the bars (9.0) and beam (9.325) and fourth on the vault (9.05) and tied for sixth on the floor (9.425) on her way to a first-place finish in the all-around competition with a 36.8.
Hannah Perry placed second on the floor (9.6), third on the vault (9.125), fifth on the bars (8.85) and tied for sixth on the beam (8.825) en route to a second-place finish in the all-around with a 36.4.
Ellie McIntier tied for seventh on the floor (9.35), tied for eighth on the vault (8.875) and tied for ninth on the bars (8.55) in finishing 11th in the all-around with a 34.625.
Peyton Hewitt was eighth on the floor (9.3).
“When you lose by three-tenths of a point, when you get back in the gym, you’re going to preach and preach about pointed toes and stuck landings,” North coach Bob Arthur said. “We’ll be paying attention to the details for next week. Overall, it was a good meet. We just fell a little short.”

Meanwhile, East’s Lewis will make her first trip to state after finishing second on the vault (9.2), third on the bars (8.925) and floor (9.6) and fourth in the all-around (36.2). Olympian senior Kai Scott also competed in two events,, scoring a personal-best 8.6 on the floor and a 7.75 on the beam.
