National Weather Service extends flood warning for county

Photo by Mike Wolanin | The Republic Flood waters have resulted in two vehicles being abandoned on State Road 11 near Columbus with both drivers being ticketed for driving past road closed signs.

1:45 P.M. UPDATE

Bartholomew County Emergency Management said several roads remain closed or have high water. Please do not drive through flooded roadways and use alternate routes whenever possible.

Tannehill – between 330W and 280W

ORIGINAL STORY

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The National Weather Service has extended flood warnings for the East Fork White River at Columbus and Seymour, Flatrock River near Columbus, Sugar Creek near Edinburgh, Big Blue River at Shelbyville and the Driftwood River near Edinburgh.

Total rainfall amounts of 3 inches to more than 5 inches of rain across much of central and southern Indiana is bringing widespread moderate flooding across the East Fork White and lower White basins and their tributaries.

Additional rainfall over the weekend and next week could lengthen the amount of time area rivers remain in flood or bring additional rises next week.

The flood warning will continue until Sunday night. At 9 p.m. Friday, the stage was at 13.4 feet. The maximum river stage was at 14.1 feet. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday morning and continue falling and remain below flood stage at 9 feet.

Flatrock River near Columbus

The flood warning will continue until early Sunday morning.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday, the stage was 13.7 feet.

The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 p.m. Friday was 14.8 feet.

The river is expected to fall below flood stage late tomorrow evening and continue falling and remain below flood stage. Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

Driftwood River near Edinburgh

The flood warning will continue until early Monday.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday the stage was 14.3 feet. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours     ending at 8:30 p.m. Friday was 15.2 feet.

The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Sunday afternoon and continue falling and remain below flood stage.
