Lemmons leads Grenadiers to sweep of IUC

NEW ALBANY — IUC dropped a River States Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday at IU Southeast, falling 6-4 and 10-2.

The Crimson Pride outhit the Grenadiers 12-8 in the opener. Lily Retz went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Renee Lecher went 2 for 4 with a double and Linnea Baldner went 2 for 5 with a double. Starting pitcher Destiny Forler took the loss.

Josie Lemons, a junior from Columbus North, went 3 for 4 with three stolen bases and two RBIs for IU Southeast. Lillian Mackey, a senior from North, went 1 for 3.

The second game was tied 2-2 until the Grenadiers scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth to end it. Baldner went 3 for 4, and Emma Chism and Carli Hosler each went 2 for 3 for IUC. Chloe Linn, the first of four Crimson Pride pitchers, took the loss.

Lemmons went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and two RBIs for the Grenadiers (12-7, 6-6).

IUC (10-10, 7-7) will play a doubleheader Saturday at Oakland City. The next home games are a doublehader with IU Southeast April 7.
