Jets overcome Tigers
CROTHERSVILLE — Hauser trailed by one point at the end of the first quarter Saturday night, but outscored Crothersville 19-5 in the second period on its way to a 61-47 victory.
Connor Wilson led the Jets (9-6) with 17 points. Andrew Titus added 11.
Crusaders notch win
CANNELTON — Columbus Christian was again without top scorer and rebounder Logan Roth because of a sprained ankle, but still managed a 55-39 win at Cannelton.
Kyle Marsh led the Crusaders (18-4) with 11 points. Blake Barker added 10.
Panthers down Knights
Jennings County put five players in double figures in a 75-64 win at South Dearborn.
Bret Sawyer led the Panthers (11-4) with 18 points and added 10 rebounds. Nick AmRhein scored 17 points, while Tyler Vogel added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Travis Wilson also had 12 points, and Kenneth Jones added 10.
The Panthers were coming off a 77-54 Hoosier Hills Conference loss to Floyd Central on Friday. Tyler Vogel led Jennings with 26 points and eight rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cannelton tops Crusaders
CANNELTON — Columbus Christian was without starting point guard Madi Ochs, and Lauren Barker sprained an ankle early in game in a 60-13 loss at Cannelton.
Taylor Ingram and Hannah Lorimor each scored four points to lead the Crusaders (1-11).
Pacers topple Cougars
GREENSBURG — Switzerland County jumped out to a 16-7 lead after one quarter and went on to hand South Decatur a 73-59 loss.
Stacy Fox led the Cougars (4-17) with 23 points. Taylor Best scored 16 points, and Mackenzie Kopplin added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
SWIMMING
Red Devils sweep East
JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville swept Columbus East 113-73 in the boys meet and 112-56 in the girls meet.
Cortney VanLiew won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.21 seconds, and Whitley Eicher took the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.38 to lead the Olympian girls. They teamed with Annie Frazier and Jennifer Utterback to capture the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.07).
For the boys, Derek Alexander won the 100 butterfly (1:03.04), and Austin Smith took the 100 freestyle (52.58).
WRESTLING
East senior takes 4th
ARCADIA — Columbus East senior Emma Mensendiek finished fourth in the inaugural girls state wrestling finals on Friday night.
Mensendiek fell to Hamilton Heights’ Markaela Pugh 2-0 in the first round. Mensendiek then pinned Madison’s Jaylyn Lawrence in 40 seconds and beat Salem’s Amelia Pellman 4-1 before being pinned by Jay County’s Kyndel Huey in 2:51 in the third-place match.
